The Senior Staff Accountant supports the Assistant Director of Finance with general ledger maintenance and balance sheet reconciliations. This role also assists in overseeing key Finance Department functions—including payroll, accounts payable, and general cashiering—ensuring compliance with both local and corporate policies.
Job Responsibility:
Foster a harmonious and professional working relationship with all departments and the Home Office
Support the Assistant Director of Finance in maintaining strong internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and resources
Actively collaborate with department leaders on payroll, labor standards, and other operational finance matters
Provide guidance and oversight in areas such as payroll, accounts payable, and general cashiering, ensuring timeliness and accuracy
Assist in mentoring and developing Finance team members including all Staff Accountants and Generalists to support individual growth and departmental succession planning
Serve as a resource across Finance functions, stepping in as needed to support team members on leave or during high-volume periods
Uphold and enforce Four Seasons’ Category One and Two Work Rules and Standards of Conduct as outlined in EmPact
Hold quarterly training sessions for operational managers on key finance functions that impact all operations
Maintain a strong working knowledge of the Accounting & Finance Manual and the current USALI standards
Execute daily, monthly, and period-end accounting tasks including journal entries, accruals, and general ledger maintenance
Prepare accurate financial reports and statements in a timely manner as part of the month-end close process
Perform and coordinate reconciliations for all balance sheet and bank accounts, ensuring prompt resolution of discrepancies
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts alongside the Assistant Director of Finance
Support internal and external audit processes by maintaining organized and complete backup documentation and workpapers
Participate in physical inventories and verify count accuracy, valuation, and pricing
Ensure compliance with record retention, security, and disposal policies in accordance with company guidelines
Conduct periodic audits, including vacation and medical deductions, and assist with adjustment journal entries
Continuously strive for improvement of processes and efficiency
Ensure accurate recording of hotel income and assist with the preparation of the Daily Business Report
Ensure that House Funds and Floats Counts are up to date and limit any kind of exposure that would affect profitability
Review and monitor daily and weekly labor reports, explaining variances and addressing discrepancies with department leaders
Conduct weekly labor management meetings and assist in analyzing labor productivity data and provide guidance to department heads on labor-related issues
Collaborate with operational leaders to develop and review labor standards, proposing adjustments as necessary and gaining appropriate approvals
Contribute to forecasting and budgeting efforts, particularly labor-related forecasts, in partnership with department managers
Monitor overall financial performance, ensuring that accounting practices contribute to the profitability and financial health of the hotel
Requirements:
Must possess legal work authorization in United States (unless candidate is currently in a managerial position at another Four Seasons location as they may qualify for a L-1 Visa sponsorship)
Ability to lift up to 20lbs, and push/pull as needed during shifts
Flexible scheduling availability required
Ability to apply sound business judgment with strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
Require a working technical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and all corporate policies and procedures
Require knowledge of and the ability to operate computer equipment and excellent Excel and Computer Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare and deliver reports, effective presentations and to facilitate meetings
Strategic, analytical and have solid business acumen
Nice to have:
