We are seeking a Specialized IT Consultant with senior-level expertise in public safety communications to lead the coordination, administration, and implementation of integrated 911 solutions. This role is a unique hybrid of IT systems administration and specialized telecommunications engineering. You will provide 24x7 critical support for emergency dispatch equipment across Ontario. Your expertise will bridge the gap between complex radio-trunking systems and enterprise-level server environments.
Job Responsibility:
Provide 24x7 onsite and remote support for emergency ambulance dispatching equipment, including CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch), radio, phone, and GIS
Manage and troubleshoot diverse systems including VHF/UHF Radio, P25 standards, satellite systems, and digital voice recording
Coordinate the administration of desktop and server environments (Windows Domain, DHCP, WINS, and IP addressing) within Ambulance Communication Centres (ACCs)
Serve as a subject matter expert for multiple technology projects, offering realistic work estimates, capturing business requirements, and developing training materials for users and vendors
Travel to provincial dispatch centres to coordinate the remediation of telephony and radio hardware as part of the implementation of new network solutions
Use specialized Radio Frequency (RF) test equipment (wattmeters, voltmeters, system analyzers) to diagnose and resolve hardware and network interface issues
Requirements:
Extensive practical experience in voice, data, radio, and satellite telecommunications engineering
Deep knowledge of LAN topologies, server configurations, and Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) solutions like Avaya
Understanding of emergency health services operations, including the interface between ambulance, police, and fire communications
Proficiency with basic vehicle electrical systems relative to radio installation and the use of system monitors and analyzers
Familiarity with ITIL practices (incident, problem, and change management) and the ability to work within government policy frameworks (e.g., PHIPA, Land Ambulance Act)
Exceptional verbal and written skills to translate complex technical requirements into business cases and status reports
Nice to have:
A technical diploma or degree in electronics technology is highly preferred
