Mastercard is evolving how developers discover, evaluate, and integrate our APIs. As the platform grows in scope and complexity, so does the need to move quickly from concept to validation. Today, ideas move too slowly from ideation to a form that stakeholders and users can meaningfully evaluate, and the handoff between design and engineering introduces ambiguity and rework. This role exists to close that gap. As part of the Developer Experience (DX) team, you will sit at the intersection of design and engineering, rapidly prototyping new features, maintaining design system specifications, and testing concepts with real users before engineering resources are committed. You will work closely with product managers, designers, front-end engineers, and developer marketing to translate strategic bets into tangible, testable experiences. Looking ahead, this role will play a key part in shaping AI-powered capabilities across the developer journey, including intelligent onboarding, personalized API recommendations, and agentic developer tooling.
Job Responsibility:
Build high-fidelity, functional prototypes to validate proposed features and experiences before full engineering investment
Own and maintain design system documentation, component specs, and interaction patterns for the developer portal
Collaborate with designers and front-end engineers to reduce ambiguity in the design-to-development handoff
Conduct rapid user testing and iteration cycles to gather signal on proposed features and flows
Partner with product managers to translate roadmap priorities into prototype-ready concepts
Contribute front-end code to production when prototypes are approved for implementation
Stay current on emerging interaction patterns, developer tooling trends, and design technology, including AI-powered interfaces
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in design technology, front-end engineering, or a hybrid design-engineering role
Proficiency in front-end frameworks (React, Next.js, or similar) and prototyping tools (Figma, Framer, or equivalent)
Experience building interactive prototypes that go beyond static mockups to simulate real product behavior
Strong understanding of design systems, component libraries, and accessibility standards
Ability to work fluidly across design and engineering teams with minimal handholding
Nice to have:
Familiarity with AI-powered interfaces, conversational UX, or agentic interaction patterns
Experience in developer platforms, API products, or technical B2B products
