Job Responsibility

Assists with routine and specialized echocardiographic studies, including transthoracic, stress echocardiographic techniques, transesophageal and contrast exams, with the goal of becoming independently capable of performing complete exams
Obtains pertinent patient medical history to optimize the exam for appropriateness
With assistance from more senior sonographer, reviews old echocardiographic studies for correlation
Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound studies in accordance with universal precautions to ensure patient safety per approved protocols, policies and procedures
Communicates with patient in a manner that is appropriate for patient understanding
Obtains vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight
Evaluates any contraindications that may be limiting to exam completeness
Uses proper patient positioning, in addition to ergonomically correct scanning techniques, to ensure patient and sonographer comfort and safety
Works with more senior sonographer to perform necessary cardiac measurements to generate preliminary findings and image acquisition/storage to support the interpreting physician of the finalized diagnostic report
Gains knowledge of cardiac structural findings and understand relevance
