Job Description:

Search at Uber Eats is more than just a utility; it’s the engine for discovery that drives over a third of our business. We’re on a mission to evolve search from a simple query box into an adaptive, intuitive experience that understands user intent before they even finish typing. The Search Experience team will be 15 engineers across Backend, Web and Full-stack. We are looking for a senior engineer and product thinker to help us redefine how millions of users discover the food, groceries, and merchants on our platform. You will design and ship the systems that power our next-generation search results by engineering new modes for intent expression & discovery. Beyond just building features, you’ll improve how we build them. A key part of our charter is improving engineering foundations to increase velocity and modernize our tech stack.

Job Responsibility:

Build intent expression and results modules that improve discovery and decision-making
Set and enforce performance standards (page load, responsiveness, memory/network efficiency)
Drive experimentation end-to-end with DS: hypotheses, instrumentation, ramp plans, and readouts
Partner with backend/platform teams on contracts, navigation patterns, and bridge capabilities
Mentor engineers and raise the bar on debugging rigor, code quality, and execution

Requirements:

6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping high-impact, user-facing products
Strong TypeScript/JavaScript + web fundamentals (rendering, performance, debugging)
Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable, performant, and reliable front-end architectures
A strong sense of product intuition and a passion for the user experience
Strong cross-functional communication with PM, Design, and Data Science

Nice to have:

Direct experience building high-traffic, low-latency, user-facing presentation layers for Search, Recommendations, or E-commerce platforms
History of successfully leading complex, cross-functional projects on the frontend
Deep understanding of browser performance, core web vitals, and building highly-available, low-latency user interfaces at scale
Data-driven and comfortable digging into frontend metrics to diagnose and improve user experience
Elevate engineers through thoughtful code reviews, clear design documentation, and mentorship
