Job Description

The PowerPoint team in Vancouver is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the future of AI-powered visual creation and storytelling. This is a rare opportunity to work on a product that has been around for nearly 40 years and is continuing to evolve to meet customer needs. In addition to this great legacy, we also have a charter bringing bleeding edge visual editing features to Copilot and in-app agents. You will work with a cross-disciplinary team of Software Engineers, Product Managers, Applied Scientists, Designers, and Data Engineers within the broader PowerPoint team and all around the company to design and implement solutions end-to-end in both PowerPoint and Copilot. Our team lives and breathe performance, and you will architect your solutions to achieve the best possible experience on a wide range of hardware and user scenarios. You will be joining the team at a time of great change in the industry. As a senior engineer, you will be responsible for tackling the hardest problems head on, both drawing from your own experience and expertise while embracing and harnessing the power of the rapidly evolving AI toolset at your disposal. You will do so while always upholding Microsoft’s commitments on security and customer trust. Although much of our team’s focus is on web technologies including React and WebGL, you should also be prepared to adapt and deploy your team wherever needed, including contributing to back-end services in C++/C#, helping to fine-tune AI models, or making contributions to native applications for PC, Mac, and mobile, ensuring consistent performance, fidelity, and accessibility.

  • From fast evolving new features to long-term architecture investments, you will take end-to-end responsibility for shipping robust, performant, reliable, and delightful experiences to millions of customers
  • Team members collaborate on every detail of design, implementation, validation and monitoring of feature usage and health across PowerPoint, Designer, and Copilot clients and backend services
  • You will have the opportunity to advance engineering excellence by driving design discussions, contributing to code reviews, and participating in knowledge sharing sessions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML, CSS
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Nice to have

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
