Tekmetric is looking for a Senior II Backend Engineer to play a key role on our Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVI) team. This role sits at the intersection of backend systems, data, and emerging AI-enabled workflows. You’ll help evolve our DVI platform from a largely manual process into a more intelligent, assistive experience, leveraging capabilities such as AI-driven media analysis, guided inspection workflows, and automated findings generation. You’ll operate across the full development lifecycle, from early technical exploration and architecture, to implementation, iteration, and long-term scalability, while partnering closely with Product, Design, and Data to turn ambiguous problem spaces into durable solutions that deliver real customer value.
Job Responsibility:
Designing and building scalable backend services and systems that power core DVI workflows and enable future AI-driven capabilities
Owning complex problem spaces end-to-end, from technical discovery and solution evaluation through delivery and iteration
Partnering closely with Product to translate customer problems into technical solutions with strong product outcomes
Evaluating tradeoffs between multiple architectural approaches and providing clear recommendations and estimates
Ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability of systems in production, while maintaining high standards for code quality and system design
Manage the end-to-end life cycle on the development of new features
Leading by influence—raising the technical bar, mentoring teammates, and contributing to a strong engineering culture
Requirements:
8+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production environments
Deep expertise in backend programming with recent experience with Java and SQL databases
Strong data analysis capabilities with experience reviewing production data, identifying patterns and insights, and translating findings into actionable technical improvements
Strong system design skills and a solid foundation in software engineering best practices.
