As a Senior Software Engineer (all genders) you will join an autonomous, cross-functional team, lay and transform the technical foundation needed as we continue our growth. You will design, architect, and build mission-critical applications that improve and automate processes for different groups of stakeholders (Stores Management, Zalando Engineering Community, Outlets customers). Through collaboration with them, you will develop highly resilient software components in a microservice-based and event-driven system tailored for retail.
Job Responsibility:
Drive end-to-end technical projects from concept to high-quality delivery
Design and implement complex, cross-platform, and multi-domain solutions
Push engineering culture forward by advocating for clean architecture and comprehensive test suites
Evolve the architecture to stay ahead of growth and experiment with emerging tech
Guide fellow engineers, refine internal processes, and foster a culture of knowledge-sharing
Manage stakeholder communication and translate technical hurdles into a clear roadmap
Requirements:
7+ years of engineering experience, ideally in a similar high-scale environment
Deep expertise in Golang, Node.js, and TypeScript (React and Next.js are a strong plus)
Hands-on experience with distributed systems using Kubernetes, AWS, RabbitMQ, and Kafka
Strong experience with PostgreSQL
User-focused systems thinker who balances high-speed delivery with uncompromising quality
Highly organized and naturally approach every problem through a structured, architectural lens
Either already an expert in our tech stack or possess a high hunger to master it
