Job Description:

Scientists at Uber use data to measure, analyze, and optimize all of Uber's products. On the Rider Experience Science team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on the core mobility business and influence the experience for millions of riders. We drive growth in the mobility business by understanding how riders use the app, delivering a seamless experience, and creating new personalized features. The Science work we do is diverse and helps to drive every stage of product development. Our toolkit includes experimentation, product analytics, and ML modeling. You will collaborate with other scientists, product managers, and business teams to understand the challenges in our space, then tackle problems that no one else has solved yet. Some of the key projects will include optimizing the rider conversion funnel, developing AI systems to understand metric trends, and running large scale experiments to improve the UX. In this role, you’ll have exposure to many of the teams within Uber and an opportunity to influence the strategy for a core pillar of Uber’s business.

Job Responsibility:

  • Refine ambiguous questions and generate new hypotheses about the product through a deep understanding of data, our customers, and our business
  • Design experiments and interpret the results to draw detailed and impactful conclusions that inform our decisions
  • Define how our teams measure success by developing metrics in close partnership with cross functional partners and creating AI systems to understand metric movements
  • Develop data-driven insights and work with cross-functional partners to identify opportunities to improve the long-term strategy and product roadmaps
  • Collaborate with other Scientists and Engineers to build and improve data foundations
  • Present findings to business and executive audiences

Requirements:

  • Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields
  • Mininum 3 years of industry or academic experience as an Applied or Data Scientist or equivalent (with at least two of those years in industry)
  • Experience in experimental design and analysis
  • Experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis and testing, and model development
  • Proficiency in SQL and either Python or R

Nice to have:

  • Minnum 7 years of industry experience as a Data Scientist or equivalent
  • Strong business and product sense: delight in shaping vague questions into well-defined analyses and success metrics that drive business decisions
  • Experience collaborating with very senior stakeholders (Director+) and generating insights to shape strategy
  • Experience using statistical methodologies in a marketplace context
  • Experience guiding and mentoring other Data Scientists
What we offer:
  • Eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program
  • May be offered an equity award & other types of comp
  • All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan
  • Eligible for various benefits
