Job Description

This is an exciting and challenging position for a motivated individual to join the Intelligence & Security (I&S) Sector as a Senior Safety, Health, & Environment (SHE) Specialist. This position will be based out of the BAE Systems Lexington Park facility. The SHE Specialist will support our Lexington Park, St. Inigoes and other sites across the east coast. Reporting to the C5ISR SHE Supervisor, the SHE Specialist will collaborate with the corporate and site SHE committee to provide technical and professional SHE support to BAE Systems Managers and employees to improve the safety and health of our employees, ensure environmental risks are mitigated, and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, federal, and corporate requirements.

Job Responsibility

  • Work with management, staff, and employees to promote the development of a strong and effective safety, health, and environmental culture
  • Lead and execute incident investigations with line management and various levels of professionals and skilled workers within the organization
  • Perform a team approach to root cause analysis utilizing defined methodologies to identify causes and preventive measures
  • Report or review findings from incident investigations, inspections, or other applicable information to senior leadership
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure safety and health compliance
  • Assist with the on-going development and management of the SHE management system. Prepare and update procedures and work instructions. Implement the processes outlined in the BAE Systems SHE management system
  • Be instrumental in assisting with corporate SHE reviews and inspections
  • Confer with health professionals to assess health risks and develop ways to manage health issues related to occupational exposures
  • Ability to execute required company and regulatory training to management staff and employees
  • Assist with interaction with federal, state, and local regulators during inspections
  • Other duties required to fulfill company and regulatory SHE requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or High School diploma and 5 years work experience in SHE
  • Thorough knowledge of SHE regulations and modern SHE management principles
  • Communicate complex information effectively with employees and all levels of site management (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative individually
  • Manage time efficiently with little supervision
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prepare and present
  • Experience facilitating meetings and working groups
  • Ability to coach/consult with line management at all levels relative to building a culture and processes that lead to excellent SHE performance
  • Experienced/well versed with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PPT, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret-level security clearance

Nice to have

  • Three or more years of direct SHE Experience
  • ASP/CSP certification
  • Ability to teach Forklift, CPR, Fall Protection and other SHE Trainings to small and large groups
  • Previously certified in forklift, CPR and fall protection
