Digital Sun is a standout studio in the indie game world. With three successful titles behind us, we’re always pushing creative boundaries and exploring new frontiers. Now, we’re searching for talented individuals to join us as we take on fresh challenges and continue shaping the future of indie gaming. We’re looking for a Senior Rigger to join our team and contribute to our ongoing projects in a freelance/remote collaboration format. In this role, you will help shape the characters and animation systems behind our games, ensuring they feel responsive, expressive and alive.

Job Responsibility

  • Create and maintain high-quality character rigs for gameplay and cinematics
  • Develop efficient skinning and deformation systems
  • Ensure clean export and integration into Unreal Engine
  • Support and improve animation pipelines and workflows
  • Maintain, iterate and troubleshoot rigs to ensure they are stable, performant and animator-friendly

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a rigger in the video game industry
  • Advanced proficiency in 3DS Max (Autodesk Maya is a plus)
  • Experience integrating rigs into Unreal Engine (Blueprints knowledge is a plus)
  • Strong understanding of anatomy for deformation and rigging purposes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and pipeline awareness
  • Strong understanding of deformation, skinning, and control systems
  • Ability to collaborate closely with animators, programmers and technical artists

Nice to have

  • Solid Python skills, ideally applied to rigging tools and pipeline automation
  • Sensitivity to animator needs and gameplay constraints
  • Ability to iterate quickly and respond to feedback with flexibility
  • Understanding of VFX/animation sync and how animations interact with visual and sound feedback
  • Comfortable adapting to remote workflows and asynchronous communication (if freelance)

  • Establish hang-point, connect hoist and attachments to permanent rigging points, connect GAC Flex spanset attachments to truss, connect/run and dress motor cables, run cable picks, ensure safety of scenic elements to hang-points and proper use of all truss protection equipment, inspect all cabling tie-offs
  • Check that all truss bolts are tight and pieces of flown equipment are safetied to truss
  • Support other trades needing help raising gear through use of motor or lift, and check work for safety
  • Remain on site until all motors have been raised to trim
  • Responsible for observing and maintaining all safety concerns during an event, including escalation of any observations of personnel who are acting in an unsafe manner
  • Ensure the power phasing of motor controller is appropriate to prevent limit switches from being defeated
