Job Description:

The Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (NECCOG) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Regional Planner to support and lead a wide range of regional planning initiatives across its 16 member towns. This position reports to the Director of Regional Planning and serves as a key member of NECCOG’s professional team. The Senior Regional Planner will work collaboratively with municipal officials, state agencies, and community partners while managing complex planning projects, analyzing data, developing regional plans, and supporting critical programs in areas such as land use, transportation, housing, hazard mitigation, environmental resource protection, economic development, stormwater, and other regional priorities

Job Responsibility:

  • Support and lead a wide range of regional planning initiatives across its 16 member towns
  • Work collaboratively with municipal officials, state agencies, and community partners
  • Manage complex planning projects
  • Analyze data
  • Develop regional plans
  • Support critical programs in areas such as land use, transportation, housing, hazard mitigation, environmental resource protection, economic development, stormwater, and other regional priorities

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in community, environmental, or regional planning or a related field
  • At least five years of progressively responsible planning experience
  • Knowledge of Connecticut General Statutes, land use frameworks, and regional planning practices
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • experience with GIS and related applications
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regional travel

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Connecticut’s land use statutes and regulations is highly valuable
  • AICP certification is preferred
