Job Description

Our client is seeking a Senior Counsel to lead legal efforts across its commercial real estate portfolio, with a focus on retail leasing. This role will take ownership of negotiating and structuring lease transactions and related agreements, while serving as a key advisor to internal stakeholders. The position offers a high level of autonomy along with meaningful collaboration across leasing, operations, and finance. In addition, this attorney will oversee the review and negotiation of commercial insurance programs to ensure appropriate risk protection.

Job Responsibility

  • Structure, draft, and negotiate retail leases and a wide range of related real estate agreements
  • Partner closely with Leasing and Construction & Operations teams on active deals and ongoing portfolio needs
  • Handle sophisticated, high impact, or time sensitive negotiations from start to finish
  • Assess legal and business risk while supporting practical, business oriented outcomes
  • Analyze existing agreements and advise on key rights, obligations, and critical deadlines
  • Work across multiple deal types, including subleases, ground leases, and build to suit arrangements
  • Collaborate with brokers, internal leadership, outside counsel, and finance to drive transactions forward efficiently
  • Contribute to the management and optimization of the broader real estate portfolio
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders, including lease administration and executive teams
  • Refine and standardize lease templates and processes to improve consistency and speed
  • Review and negotiate commercial insurance coverage, policies, and related terms

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Licensed in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain admission
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in commercial real estate, ideally with retail leasing exposure
  • Strong background drafting and negotiating leases, amendments, subleases, and terminations
  • Experience reviewing and placing commercial insurance coverage for real estate assets
  • Familiarity with managing and responding to insurance claims in coordination with brokers and counsel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong negotiation ability
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work cross functionally with business partners
  • Experience representing both landlords and tenants is a plus
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Self directed with sound judgment and the ability to balance legal considerations with business objectives
  • Comfortable operating in a fast paced environment with multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and discretion in all matters
