The Senior Quality Manager is responsible for leading the site’s Quality Assurance function within a fast‑paced, high‑volume salmon processing environment. This role ensures the manufacture of safe, legal and high‑quality products that consistently meet customer, regulatory and certification body requirements. The postholder will champion a culture of quality, drive continuous improvement across the site, and act as a key technical representative in customer, audit and regulatory interactions.
Job Responsibility:
Provide leadership and direction to the site Quality Assurance teams, ensuring the effective operation of the Food Safety & Quality Management System
Maintain the site HACCP systems in line with current legislation, industry best practice, and customer expectations
Ensure compliance with BRCGS, major retail standards, internal policies and UK/EU food safety legislation
Lead the preparation for and management of all internal, external, customer and third‑party audits
Oversee non‑conformance management, root cause analysis and completion of corrective and preventive actions
Promote a proactive quality culture through coaching, capability building and strong cross-functional engagement
Monitor, analyse and report on key quality KPIs including complaints, process control, GMP, traceability, audit findings and finished product performance
Partner with NPD, Operations and Engineering to ensure food safety and quality considerations are integrated throughout the product lifecycle
Serve as the primary technical contact for customer enquiries, complaint investigations and product quality discussions
Requirements:
Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field – or significant, relevant professional experience
Level 4 Food Safety and Level 3 HACCP (minimum)
Additional training in Allergen Management or Root Cause Analysis
Extensive experience in a promoted quality or technical role within the food industry, ideally in seafood or chilled, short shelf-life products
Strong working knowledge of BRCGS, major retailer standards and UK/EU food legislation
Demonstrable leadership capability with experience developing and motivating teams
Proven success managing audits, customer relationships, and technical documentation
Excellent communication, influencing and problem-solving skills
High energy, resilience and a proactive approach to quality improvement
Nice to have:
Internal Auditor qualification (BRCGS or ISO 22000)
Experience within salmon processing or seafood manufacturing operations
