VarSome.com is the world’s leading website for professional human genetics. With more than 5 000 citations in scientific papers, 60 000 registered professional users, we are seeking to bring together all the human expertise in molecular genetics. VarSome Clinical is a comprehensive decision support software platform for genetic testing. VarSome is created by Saphetor, a Switzerland-based precision medicine company with offices in Lausanne, Boston, and Athens, using bioinformatics to apply human genome data to improve health and lives worldwide. Saphetor is pioneering the use of big-data sequencing technology, such as exome and whole-genome sequencing, for clinical practice. We are involved in both clinical research and diagnostics, providing our clients with quality analysis and interpretation of next-generation DNA sequencing (NGS) data. All our services are provided over the web, and our VarSome.com website is the world’s prime reference for genetic variant interpretation.

Job Responsibility:

Development of server-side logic, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from/to the front-end
Maintenance and advancement of our current stack of Python web applications among which the VarSome Clinical application, the VarSome.com application, the VarSome API
Conduct and participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and mentor junior developers
Discussions on system architecture, writing critical tests, optimizing performance, writing reports, coordinating with our front-end team and developing custom functionality for clients - with full responsibility for the quality of your work and deliverables

Requirements:

BS and/or MS degree in Computer Science
Proven track record (at least 5 years) as a Python Developer with hands-on experience in Django/Django Rest Framework, building restful APIs
Solid understanding of MariaDB or similar relational database systems
Proficiency in Docker for containerization and orchestration
Good experience with code testing (unit testing, integration tests, functional tests)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
Familiarity with agile methodologies and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced development environment
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment
Fluency in English (written and spoken)

Nice to have:

Familiarity with the Google Cloud Platform and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Knowledge of Bootstrap, React JS or other front end development frameworks
Some knowledge of Bioinformatics or willingness to take a deep dive into the specific domain
