We are looking for a Senior Property Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and day-to-day accounting operations for a property portfolio in Illinois. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to improving workflows. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and contributing to a high standard of financial accuracy.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties in accordance with GAAP
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely resolution of outstanding items
Oversee general ledger activity for property accounts, including journal entries, accruals, and other period-end close tasks
Analyze financial results and provide clear explanations of trends, discrepancies, and account activity to internal stakeholders
Maintain organized accounting records and support audit, compliance, and reporting requirements with accurate documentation
Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting procedures and improve the efficiency of recurring financial processes
Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting reporting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy
Utilize property accounting systems such as Yardi, when applicable, to support reporting, reconciliations, and account maintenance
Requirements:
At least 3 years of property accounting experience with direct responsibility for financial reporting and reconciliations
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Strong understanding of GAAP and its application to property accounting activities
Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements and completing balance sheet reconciliations
Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and proactively improve existing processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with careful attention to detail
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
