Senior Project Manager – Capital Infrastructure. An enticing opportunity has arisen with a high-growth South Island local authority delivering a significant capital infrastructure programme to support rapid population growth and long-term resilience. This is a permanent, client-side leadership role within the Property & Infrastructure function, responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex, high-value capital works projects. You’ll lead the delivery of major three waters, transport and growth infrastructure projects across the full project lifecycle, from business case and procurement through to construction, handover and benefits realisation. The programme includes a diverse mix of: Wastewater treatment and conveyance upgrades; Stormwater and resilience works; Transport corridor and arterial upgrades; Growth-enabling trunk infrastructure; Large-scale renewal and capacity improvements. This is a governance-facing role requiring strong commercial judgement, structured project management discipline and confident stakeholder engagement.
Job Responsibility:
Lead capital works projects from initiation to close-out
Manage procurement and contract administration (NZS 3910 suite)
Act in an Engineer’s Representative capacity where required
Own scope, programme, cost, risk and quality outcomes
Present to governance and senior leadership groups
Manage consultants, contractors and community stakeholders
Requirements:
Proven experience delivering capital works programmes (ideally in a public sector or comparable client-side environment)
Strong contract administration capability, including NZS 3910 exposure
Commercial acumen and proactive risk management skills
Ability to operate effectively within structured project governance frameworks
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability
