The Senior Project Manager will lead initiatives focused on technical debt remediation, ensuring project schedules and data quality standards are met. The remediation of technical debt is considered a top departmental priority, and this Project was put into place to address the risk that technical debt will affect the delivery of services. This project aims to improve network performance, establish disaster recovery solutions to enable IT continuity, stabilize aging IT systems, and transition to an evergreen life cycle approach. Responsible for the oversight of medium high to high complexity activities. This role involves applying project management methodologies to help oversee and report on the progress and delivery of funded activities under the Technical Debt Remediation Initiative. The candidate will meet with activity owners to provide guidance and updates on Scope, Schedule, Risks, Issues and Costs, with the overall objective of reporting progress to management.
Job Responsibility:
Meet monthly (more frequently when necessary) with Project Managers (PMs) of assigned activities
Monitor schedule, milestones, burn rate, scope, risks, and issues of assigned activities
Track discrepancies in schedule, milestones, scope, risks, and issues of assigned activities
Report discrepancies in schedule, milestones, scope, risks, and issues of assigned activities
Discuss and analyze discrepancies in schedule, milestones, scope, risks, and issues with PMs
When issues/risks arise, escalate/report to appropriate level/team (governance, AO management, etc.)
Guide, analyze and provide support to PMs for change requests
Ensure data entry and quality standards
Ensure PMs enter all required data into PMIS
Through discussion with PMs, maintain data quality standards and accuracy
Lead or contribute to reporting requests received and provide guidance to your activities’ PMs
Inform and ensure each activity’s PM’s understanding of their role and responsibilities involved with their funding
Provide coaching and support to colleagues when required
Lead or participate in committees and project teams when required
Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, systems, tools, and best practices in project management
Analyze internal processes and implement improvements to them
Lead the training, consultation, quality control and revision of schedules in MS Project Pro as they relate to reporting for all activities under the portfolio
Provide guidance on best practices for maintaining and analyzing a baseline schedule (using Project Management methodologies and guidelines) throughout the duration of an activity’s funded lifetime
Review new and existing project schedules for funded activities that are ready for baselining, during their onboarding period and/or on an as-needed basis
Requirements:
10+ years of recent experience working as a Project Coordinator or other similar Project Management role
3+ years of recent experience utilizing PM tools such as MS Project Pro, PMIS, SharePoint & MS Office Suite
1+ years of previous experience with Federal Government work experience, specifically with ESDC
Must hold a valid Reliability Security Clearance
Must have a Canadian university degree or college/CEGEP diploma related to computer science, business administration, information technology, or engineering or the equivalent as established by a recognized Canadian academic credentials assessment service
