This role is responsible for leading and managing complex, large-scale, multi-channel content initiatives for the University’s integrated content strategies and flagship channels—including Rochester Review magazine, the News Center website, social media, and marketing campaigns. Ensures alignment with UM&C priorities, institutional brand strategy, and enterprise-wide goals.
Job Responsibility:
Serves as a key member of the Content Team within University Marketing and Communications (UM&C), reporting to the Director of Content
Leads and manages complex, large-scale, multi-channel content initiatives for the University’s integrated content strategies and flagship channels
Applies a systems-level project management approach to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple simultaneous projects from initiation to completion and distribution
Oversees content operations, vendor management, and cross-functional coordination
Leads intake, scoping, prioritization, and scheduling of all content projects across UM&C
Refines and develops processes, governance models, and workflows for content operations
Maintains project management tools and calendars
Develops comprehensive project plans
Leads complex, multidisciplinary project teams
Coordinates content projects and initiatives with partners and extended teams
Tracks project progress
identifies, assesses, and mitigates project risks
Schedules and leads project meetings
Develops and maintains reporting dashboards
As needed, conducts final quality check for team deliverables
Manages operations for freelance content creators, writers, editors, photographers, and other creative partners
Manages a defined project or program budget
Maintains list of approved freelance or agency support resources
Monitors invoices and bills
Tracks vendor activity and budget usage
Analyzes trends and recommends adjustments to resourcing models
Provides operational support for Rochester Review magazine
Publishes content in the CMS
troubleshoots workflow issues
Evaluates and recommends process, tool, and technology enhancements
Prepares reports and analysis on content operations and deliverables
Leads or consults on initiatives that enhance governance, standardization, and enterprise-wide content alignment
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required
5 years of relevant experience required
Experience leading large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects and managing project budgets preferred
Experience working in higher education preferred
Advanced proficiency in project management methodologies, tools, and reporting dashboards preferred
Exceptional organizational, leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills required
Experience with editorial/content operations preferred
Knowledge of and familiarity with content creation and publishing tools and technology (e.g., content management systems, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office products, file sharing or storage services) required
Knowledge of and familiarity with tracking and optimization tools, technology, and platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, search/generative engine optimization) preferred
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across units, as well as with external vendors required
Familiarity with higher education or complex organizational environments preferred
Extensive computer literacy to include experience in Smartsheet, Teams, and Powerpoint required
Detail-oriented with a proven ability to manage projects required
Effective presentation, analytical, and problem solving skills required
Nice to have:
Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI or CAPM upon hire preferred
