The Australian Antarctic Infrastructure Renewal (AIR) Alliance is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support the delivery of the first stage of a multi‑decade program to renew and expand Australia’s infrastructure in Antarctica.
Job Responsibility:
Provide construction leadership support and project management support for building works
Coordinate construction activities, including managing the daily workload of multi-disciplined trade teams
Apply sound knowledge of building construction methods and construction sequencing, with consideration for remote and cold-climate environments
Coordinate works involving infrastructure services, including electrical systems, water distribution and treatment, heating, sewer and fire services
Implement and maintain effective worksite safety procedures in line with WHS legislation, Alliance standards, and Program requirements
Participate in and lead risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safe work planning for construction and maintenance activities
Monitor site safety performance and intervene where unsafe acts or conditions are identified
Identify, specify, and support the procurement of materials required for construction works and building maintenance programs
Manage site resources, including plant, materials, and labour, to support efficient delivery and minimise waste
Build, lead, and support high‑performing construction teams that prioritise safety, wellbeing, and workforce health
Support innovative approaches and new ways of working that enhance delivery outcomes and support Antarctic scientific objectives
Share lessons learned, insights, and improvements openly to strengthen Program performance
Provide clear direction, mentoring, and support to supervisors, trades, and contractors
Requirements:
Must have Engineering Degree
5 Years+ Experience in construction

Ability to lead with integrity, honesty, transparency, and accountability in all decisions and interactions
Strong problem‑solving capability, with the confidence to address issues constructively and collectively rather than attributing blame
