This position oversees and is responsible for completing a variety of professional engineering assignments in the areas of transportation design, traffic operations, utilities and site development. The position also is responsible for project management and mentoring junior level engineers.
Job Responsibility:
Perform and supervise the design of roadway design projects including, including trail, sidewalk, erosion control, storm drainage systems, water transmission systems, sewers, earthwork, ADA ramps, pavement overlays, traffic signal systems, illumination, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), channelization, signing, traffic control and maintenance of traffic
Perform and supervise engineering designs including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction and maintenance of traffic details
Prepare engineering documents including Geometric Design Documentation, Basis of Design Documentation, , and Design Deviation Reports
Roadway modeling using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads
Preparation of project plans, specification, reports, quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
Collaborate with other team members, professionals and disciplines across multiple offices
Coordinate with clients, utility companies, or government agencies for project delivery
The ability to work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects
Perform senior level internal quality control to ensure designs, plans and calculations are complete and accurate
Review construction plans, design calculations, and specifications to ensure completeness, accuracy, or conformity to engineering standards or practices
Perform construction support activities including responses to requests for information (RFIs), submittal reviews, construction site visits, and design revisions/ management of change
Assist with the management of projects including oversight of scope, schedule, budget and quality. Mentor and train junior level staff
Perform project administrative duties including maintaining records and preparing reports and correspondence
Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling
Participate in business development activities as required
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent
5 to 7 years of relevant engineering and project management experience
Professional Engineer License Required
Knowledge and familiarity with the following (but not limited to) engineering references and resources: Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), Standard Specifications for Roads, Bridge, and Municipal Construction
WSDOT Design Manual and Standard Plans
American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) design standards
Federal Highway Administration Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
Transportation Research Board Highway Capacity Manual (HCM)
Federal Guidelines for ADA Design
Experience in developing transportation engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
Experience drafting and 3D design with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads
Experience with Project Management including scope, schedule, budget and quality management
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and MS Project
Proficiency with BlueBeam Revu
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Ability to work within a team environment
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
