ConnectSydney are on the hunt for an experienced Senior Project Engineer/Manager- Designs to join our Rockdale team! ConnectSydney, a joint venture of ServiceStream, Boral, and Johnson Controls, in partnership with Transport for NSW (TfNSW), is entrusted with the management of the Harbour Zone. Our responsibilities encompass routine maintenance, strategic enhancements, and specialised projects aimed at bolstering Sydney's transport infrastructure. Reporting into the Engineering Manager, the Senior Project Engineer / Manager - Designs will manage, plan, organise, coordinate, deliver, monitor, and report all pre-delivery project activities, ensuring that assigned projects achieve their time, cost, and quality objectives. This role is pivotal in translating design concepts into practical, client-ready solutions that support safe, sustainable, and high-performing road infrastructure outcomes.
Job Responsibility:
Lead pre-delivery planning activities for road infrastructure projects, including bridges, culverts, slopes, and pavements
Develop and maintain project schedules, resource plans, and risk registers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
Coordinate internal and external stakeholders, including design teams, contractors, and clients, to align project objectives and deliverables
Review and manage design solutions to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, and TfNSW requirements
Provide technical leadership to the engineering team, ensuring designs are constructible, cost-effective, and sustainable
Identify design risks, resolve technical issues, and implement mitigation strategies during pre-delivery
Monitor and report on all pre-delivery project activities, ensuring visibility of progress, risks, and outcomes to management and clients
Ensure all deliverables, including drawings, reports, and specifications, are accurate, complete, and of high quality
Support handover processes by providing clear documentation and guidance to delivery teams
Act as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities during pre-delivery activities
Respond to client inquiries, manage approvals, and ensure alignment with project expectations
Facilitate workshops, reviews, and technical discussions to support decision-making
Implement and maintain quality assurance processes in all pre-delivery activities
Identify, assess, and mitigate technical, safety, and environmental risks in design solutions
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, TfNSW standards, and relevant legislative requirements
Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to junior engineers and project staff
Promote a culture of safety, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the pre-delivery team
Support knowledge sharing and best practice implementation across projects
Requirements:
Engineering Degree (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical)
Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in civil/structural engineering, with significant exposure to road infrastructure projects, including bridges, pavements, slopes, and culverts
Proven experience managing pre-delivery, design, or delivery phases of infrastructure projects, including planning, coordination, and reporting
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical deliverables
Strong understanding of design standards, codes, and specifications relevant to road infrastructure (e.g., TfNSW, Austroads, relevant AS/NZS codes)
Experience in preparing technical reports, drawings, cost estimates, and risk assessments for pre-delivery activities
Proven experience liaising with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities
Ability to work within or lead a team
Results driven, ability to meet strict deadlines
Familiar with all activities involved in setting up project teams and site establishment relating to multidiscipline projects
Experience working on public infrastructure or asset management contracts
Nice to have:
Knowledge of innovative construction methods, sustainable design principles, and lifecycle asset management
Experience in mentoring or developing junior engineers and promoting team capability
