My client, an specialist M&E subcontractor are actively recruiting for a senior project engineer with a mechanical / electrical background, to join their existing rail team on a high profile rail project in Birmingham. The Senior M&E Project Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end technical delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP) systems within a rail environment. You will bridge the gap between design and construction, ensuring that all M&E services are installed, tested, and commissioned safely, on time, and in full compliance with rail industry standards.
Job Responsibility:
Manage the technical interface between M&E design teams and site-based installation teams
Act as the CRE (Contractor's Responsible Engineer) for M&E where required, signing off on technical designs and site changes
Review and approve Work Package Plans (WPPs) and Task Briefing Sheets (TBS)
Ensure all installations adhere to Network Rail standards
Lead the management of M&E subcontractors, ensuring quality of work and adherence to the project program
Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure "Right First Time" delivery
Oversee the procurement of long-lead M&E equipment (e.g., switchgear, HVAC units, UPS systems)
Ensure all works comply with the CDM 2015 Regulations
Manage the Handover (AMP/OMP) process, ensuring all Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals and "As-Built" drawings are accurate
Assist the Commercial team in managing variations, assessing subcontractor payment applications, and identifying project risks
Monitor the M&E program, identifying potential delays and implementing mitigation strategies
Requirements:
HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
PTS/CSCS Gold/Black Card/SSSTS
Minimum 5-7 years in M&E engineering, with at least 3 years specifically in a rail environment (Stations, Depots, or Tunnels)
Proven experience acting as or supporting a CRE
Deep understanding of rail-specific systems (HV/LV power, OLE, signaling power, fire detection/suppression, and CMS)
