The Senior Project Controls Specialist uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the project controls discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the project controls discipline. The Senior Project Controls Specialist solves complex problems and uses their discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior Project Controls Specialist impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the project controls team and other related teams and ensures that they are working within the appropriate guidelines and policies.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the development and deployment of advanced visual analytics to support project performance monitoring, forecasting, and executive-level reporting
Apply data mining, statistical modeling, and trend analysis techniques to identify key performance indicators, cost drivers, and schedule risks across complex, multi-phase projects
Integrate and link data from multiple internal and external sources to build robust, multi-dimensional models that support real-time decision-making
Architect scalable data structures and implement standardized methods for data transformation, validation, and automation across project controls systems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including engineering, procurement, construction, finance, and IT—to understand business needs and translate them into actionable data solutions
Interpret complex data requests and deliver clear, accurate, and insightful outputs that align with project and organizational objectives
Provide strategic insights by identifying correlations, anomalies, and emerging trends within large datasets to support proactive project management
Guide and mentor junior team members on data governance, reporting standards, and best practices for data management, storage, and security
Develop predictive models and forecasting tools based on historical data, current trends, and scenario planning to support long-term project planning and risk mitigation
Support the implementation and continuous improvement of digital project controls tools and platforms, ensuring alignment with global EPC standards and practices
Lead or contribute to the development of internal training materials and knowledge-sharing initiatives to elevate data literacy and project controls capabilities across the organization
Ensure compliance with internal controls, client requirements, and industry standards in all aspects of data handling and reporting
Act as a subject matter expert in project data analytics, guiding Project Managers, Cost Engineers, and Executive Stakeholders on data-driven decision-making
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related field
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in Project Controls, Cost Engineering, or Financial Analysis within an EPC or project-driven environment
Proficiency in general office productivity tools, particularly spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software
Strong understanding of project controls principles, including cost control, scheduling, forecasting, and performance measurement
Demonstrated ability to work independently while also leading collaborative efforts across global, multidisciplinary teams
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Fluent in English with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
