The Senior Project Accountant is a critical leadership hire for our client's operations in Calgary and Edmonton. This position is designed for a visionary candidate who is ready to take the lead for the accounting team and get things organized. Our client is looking for a professional who can establish structure and efficiency while remaining deeply hands-on in the day-to-day accounting process. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive accounting services while utilizing sophisticated software to determine precise job costs and manage the financial health of various projects
Job Responsibility:
Take the lead for the accounting team to organize workflows and improve departmental structure
Maintain a hands-on approach to the accounting process, ensuring accuracy in all financial entries
Manage the full accounting cycle including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and bank reconciliations
Prepare and analyze periodic financial statements to provide insights into project profitability
Execute precise job costing utilizing Sage 50 and SAP Business One to track project expenditures
Lead the financial side of project administration by reconciling job revenue, expenses, and purchase orders
Play a key role in the transition from SAGE 50 to a new 3rd party ERP software program, Spire
Coordinate orders between the company, customers, and manufacturers to ensure seamless delivery
Follow up on purchase orders for confirmation, accuracy, and delivery timelines
Maintain and develop supply chain relationships to meet sales and inventory requirements
Resolve material inventory discrepancies and optimize inventory levels
Use advanced spreadsheet and database tools to prepare detailed reports, memos, and professional documents
Aid in the continued development and optimization of internal 3rd party software
Requirements:
A minimum of a Diploma or Degree in Accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution
Several years of experience in an accounting or project administration role
Demonstrated experience in job costing and financial project management
Proven track record of dealing with customer service-related issues and supplier management
Ability to commit to a role requiring extended computer use and high attention to detail
Local availability to work in Calgary
Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly advanced Excel
Strong technical command of Sage 50, SAP Business One, or similar ERP software environments
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for managing relationships with suppliers and partners
Proven ability in problem-solving with a keen sense of initiative and a 'quick learner' mindset
High level of professionalism, tact, and discretion when handling confidential customer and company data
Excellent organizational and time management skills to balance ad-hoc responsibilities and project deadlines
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading a team environment
Adaptability to navigate software transitions and evolving administrative processes
Nice to have:
A Project Management diploma or degree is considered a significant asset
