We are seeking a dedicated R&D Electrical Engineer to join our team as a Weapon Compatibility Engineer.
Job Responsibility:
Define and Document Technical Strategies: Develop and document comprehensive technical strategies to assert weapon system compatibility with delivery platforms through Test, Demonstration, Inspection, and/or Analysis methodologies
Collaborate Across Organizations: Work closely with multiple weapon systems organizations to ensure traceability to overarching systems engineering efforts (e.g., weapon qualification and certification
Lead Large-Scale Cross-Agency Tests: Work closely with multiple stakeholder groups to design, execute, and close large-scale electrical test campaigns
Serve as Subject Matter Expert: Advise Weapon Systems Teams on weapon/platform systems architecture, interface design, test asset needs, and other aspects of compatibility, leveraging technical depth in both weapon system and delivery platform to close knowledge gaps
Further Knowledge Base: further Sandia's Compatibility Engineering knowledge base through development and maintenance of formal training and coordination of workshops for partners across the NSE. Actively continue education on novel and cutting-edge tools and engineering practices to improve our methods of test and analysis
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Active DOE Q-level or DOW equivalent required to start
Nice to have:
Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement
Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers
Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO)
Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
Proven experience working as part of a Weapon System Team
Experience working directly with the Department of Defense
Demonstrated knowledge of systems engineering tools, techniques, and management (e.g., configuration management)
Experience with Project Management
