Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced systems engineer to support space payload design, development, and delivery activities for multiple programs. The selected candidate will work as part of a multi-project leadership team, which will be responsible for shaping the future of space remote sensing as we transition to new design concepts and technical refresh of existing designs.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support space payload design, development, and delivery activities for multiple programs
  • Work as part of a multi-project leadership team, which will be responsible for shaping the future of space remote sensing as we transition to new design concepts and technical refresh of existing designs
  • Work individually and as a team to develop space system design and architecture concepts, leading to system design
  • Application of space system engineering knowledge to influence remote sensing payload design
  • Derivation and allocation of system requirements (functional, performance, interfaces) for high-reliability remote sensing systems
  • Application of systems engineering concepts to plan, analyze, organize, and integrate system capabilities to achieve a mission need for remote sensing systems
  • Significant emphasis will be on integration across teams, requiring coordination with internal and external collaborators

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance

Nice to have:

  • Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement
  • Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO)
  • Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with systems engineering principles such as requirements derivation, allocation, or management

  • Demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent system analysis to derive and allocate requirements
  • Skillset includes application of systems engineering to space systems or other high-reliability remote sensing systems, including activities across the full lifecycle

  • Familiarity with remote sensing systems, primarily optical and radiofrequency (RF) systems
  • Experience with signal processing and signal detection for remote sensing applications
  • Experience with real-time data processing in high data rate systems
  • Experience within the aerospace industry, space systems, and associated complex design, production, and test processes
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering
  • Experience with rapid development, rapid prototyping and/or agile systems engineering processes
  • Active SCI clearance
