We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our team that is dedicated to the relentless pursuit of exceptional service in the national interest. Working closely with our Nuclear Deterrence (ND) and Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) customers, you will be responsible for developing strategic visions, product roadmaps, and requirements for information systems that meet strategic needs.
Job Responsibility:
Use systems engineering principles to research, design, and develop innovative solutions and services in the national interest
Develop Digital Engineering solutions in collaboration with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) partners
Work within a model-based system engineering (MBSE) toolset to specify requirements and processes
Lead alternative analyses efforts to drive business process improvements, system interoperability across the complex, shaping the future of the digital enterprise
Initiate, design, develop, execute, and evaluate new processes, products, and information systems through basic and applied research
Work closely with ND and NSE stakeholders and engineers of varying disciplines to understand challenges, then help define and drive requirements for business and information technology improvements
Cultivate and pursue partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in the weapon and information technology communities, helping Sandia and its ND mission meet strategic objectives
Engage in the development of system requirements and priorities for information systems and conduct technical or business tradeoff analyses to inform requirements, vision, and decisions
develop and evangelize system conceptual designs to meet requirements
Collaborate with design and production agencies and NNSA to enhance Stockpile Stewardship
Partner to deliver valuable software to the mission leveraging modern technologies (e.g., Artificial Intelligence)
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Ability to obtain a U.S. DOE Q level security clearance
Minimum 3 years of experience in systems engineering with a focus on functional decomposition
2+ years' experience in a product ownership (or similar leadership) role driving agile process improvements, automation, or digital transformation initiatives
Nuclear Deterrence (ND) domain experience at Sandia, NSE sites, and/or NNSA, including knowledge of the Product Realization Integrated Digital Enterprise (PRIDE) Program
Fundamental technical competencies in system engineering practices, including requirements engineering, business and technology architecture, and traceability and deployment oversight
Ability to work collaboratively with software architects, developers, technical leads, customers, and end users to collect requirements, develop vision, design solutions, and deliver high quality and easy-to-use software applications
Experience aligning product strategy, vision, and roadmaps with customer needs and business objectives
Experience guiding agile teams and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
Knowledge of Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software and custom software implementations, to include Supply Chain Planning solutions, product lifecycle and product data management solutions
An active DOE Q security clearance or DOD equivalent
Nice to have:
Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO)
Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
