Job Description

As a Senior Principal Product Manager - API Gateway and Extensibility, you will have the autonomy to shore up our API gateway stack and work with teams across Atlassian to prioritize web ready interfaces for an agentic AI future. You will report directly to the Head of Ecosystem - Developer Platform, will partner product teams, partnership, ecosystem, platform and marketing to deliver on and drive the onboarding to our API gateway and adoption of cloud native based interfaces

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the development, definition, and execution of the API and Extensibility strategy
  • Collaborate with engineering to enhance API gateway functionalities (e.g., rate limiting, authentication, observability, monetization)
  • Improve API security, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization
  • Work with infrastructure teams to ensure high availability, reliability, and scaling of the API ecosystem
  • Prioritize and balance features that improve developer experience (DX), security, scalability, and extensibility
  • Collaborate with Developer Relations to provide code samples, tutorials, and best practices for API adoption
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Atlassian to ensure alignment and successful implementation
  • Define and set appropriate Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to drive organizational changes and meet strategic goals

Requirements

  • 10 years in product management roles across B2B Saas companies
  • Strong experience in API development and strategy implementation
  • Technical fluency to understand and deliver enterprise requirements and understand business impact of APIs
  • Experience developing a multi-year product strategy and roadmap, gaining buy-in to executive leadership, and rallying a cross-functional team
  • Background in building relationships and inspiring and mobilizing teams towards a common vision
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to set and drive OKRs effectively

  • Experience using AI/ML to build value-added products that connect payments with revenue or accounts receivable (e.g., automated reconciliation, collections intelligence, cash application, forecasting, or churn analytics), bridging data silos to drive measurable business outcomes
  • Experience building products and platforms for a global market, with a good grasp of regional payment preferences, regulations, and operating constraints (e.g., PSD2, SCA, data residency, localization)
  • Experience owning relationships with payment processors or strategic partners, and working directly with enterprise customers to prioritize coverage, manage escalations, and align roadmaps
