Job Description

The Senior Principal Innovation Scientist, Downstream Bioprocessing is a pivotal technical leader within Cytiva’s Downstream R&D organization. This role combines deep scientific and engineering expertise with strategic foresight, customer engagement, innovation leadership, and internal mentorship. You will play a key role not only in shaping system concepts and scouting emerging technologies, but also in co‑creating and executing the Downstream strategy, ensuring strong alignment with long‑term business objectives and technical development priorities. In this role, you will represent Cytiva and the Downstream Business Unit in key industry forums and strategic initiatives.

Job Responsibility

  • Act as a strategic contributor in cross‑functional collaborations and customer engagements, bringing deep downstream expertise and a systems‑level perspective
  • Represent Cytiva at conferences and industry events, identifying emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities relevant to downstream bioprocessing
  • Provide expert input into system concepts and technology development for downstream processes
  • Lead strategic planning and execution within Downstream R&D, ensuring alignment between long‑term vision, business strategy, and technical development roadmaps
  • Translate strategic goals into actionable technical initiatives across systems, software, and hardware domains
  • Provide strategic input into portfolio prioritization and planning, ensuring that technical initiatives effectively support business objectives
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering technical excellence, innovation, and long‑term capability building within the organization

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in bioprocess applications and equipment, with a strong focus on downstream processing
  • Proven ability to operate at a strategic level across scientific, technical, and customer‑facing domains
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across geographies and functions
  • Willingness to travel regularly to Uppsala and other Cytiva sites as required
  • Ability to work autonomously while effectively navigating and influencing a dynamic matrix organization
  • PhD or equivalent, with more than 10 years of experience in a relevant scientific or engineering field
