Grade 3 Physiotherapist – Geriatric Evaluation and Management (Sub‑acute Inpatients). Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and statewide. The Physiotherapy Department forms part of the Allied Health Division and provides high‑quality, evidence‑based care across the full continuum - from Emergency through bed‑based services to community and ambulatory programs. As a Grade 3 Physiotherapist in Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), you are recognised as a clinical expert who provides advanced assessment, treatment and leadership within the sub‑acute aged‑care stream. You will manage a complex caseload of older adults, act as a consultant for colleagues, and support excellence in interdisciplinary care, service development, research, and teaching. A key focus of this role is to provide expert clinical care, lead professional development, contribute to quality improvement and research, and foster a positive, high‑performing team culture.
Job Responsibility:
Manage a highly complex caseload of older adults requiring advanced clinical reasoning, functional prognostication, and comprehensive discharge planning
Act as a senior clinician and consultant within the aged‑care stream, modelling evidence‑based practice and high‑value interdisciplinary care
Support and guide the multidisciplinary team in shared decision‑making, complex discharge processes, and service improvement initiatives
Deliver and support research initiatives, journal clubs, and translation of emerging evidence into practice
Maintain high‑quality documentation, data accuracy, and adherence to information management and digital systems
Requirements:
Current AHPRA registration and relevant tertiary qualification in Physiotherapy
Seven + years’ relevant clinical experience, including extensive experience in acute and/or sub‑acute gerontology
Expertise in teaching, supervision and fostering professional competence in others
A strong record in research and/or quality improvement, with the ability to lead or contribute to projects
Excellent communication, high‑level interpersonal skills and proven ability to work within and lead multidisciplinary teams
Strong understanding of broader health‑system issues, policy context and the ability to integrate this into clinical and service decision‑making
