Robert Half is hiring a Senior Payroll Specialist for a well-established, multi-entity organization that values accuracy, ownership, and steady execution. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role for someone who wants to own payroll end-to-end in a complex environment, without managing people.
Job Responsibility:
Own end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state, multi-entity workforce of approximately 1,000 employees
Execute bi-weekly payroll with a high level of accuracy, compliance, and accountability
Partner closely with Accounting and the Controller’s group on payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations, and balance sheet tie-outs
Reconcile payroll, tax, and benefits-related accounts including medical, dental, HSA, 401k, and other withholdings
Support payroll consolidation initiatives and system-driven process improvements
Audit payroll inputs, review variances, and investigate discrepancies through resolution
Serve as the go-to payroll subject matter expert for internal stakeholders
Ensure payroll practices align with federal, state, and local compliance requirements
Requirements:
Strong experience running payroll in a complex, multi-state environment
Hands-on experience with ADP as a primary payroll system
Working knowledge of payroll accounting, including journal entries and account reconciliations
Comfort operating as an individual contributor with full ownership of payroll outcomes
Analytical mindset with attention to detail and follow-through
Ability to work closely with Accounting rather than HR-only reporting structures
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
