We are looking for an experienced payroll leader to oversee accurate, timely payroll operations for a large and geographically diverse workforce in Virginia. This role is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can manage end-to-end payroll activities, maintain compliance across multiple states, and partner with HR and finance teams to support smooth payroll administration. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in Workday and a hands-on approach to managing complex payroll processes for an organization with more than 500 employees.
Job Responsibility
Lead complete payroll processing from data review through final disbursement for a bi-monthly pay cycle serving a large employee population
Administer payroll activities across multiple states, ensuring alignment with applicable wage, tax, and labor regulations
Oversee payroll accuracy by validating earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and benefit-related adjustments before each payroll run
Serve as a key resource for payroll operations within Workday, including payroll, HCM, HRIS, ERP, and financial management functions
Partner with human resources and finance teams to resolve payroll discrepancies, support audits, and improve reporting accuracy
Monitor payroll controls, maintain supporting documentation, and prepare records needed for internal review and compliance requirements
Supervise day-to-day payroll workflows and provide guidance on process execution, issue resolution, and service delivery standards
Support payroll-related system and process updates, including changes tied to platforms such as Workforce Now or other payroll tools when needed
Requirements
At least 5 years of experience managing payroll operations in a supervisory, management, or leadership capacity
Demonstrated success handling full-cycle payroll for an employee base of more than 500 workers
Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll practices, including tax withholding and regulatory compliance requirements
Experience administering payroll on a bi-monthly schedule with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness
Hands-on proficiency with Workday Payroll, Workday HCM, Workday HRIS, Workday ERP, and Workday Financial Management
Ability to analyze payroll data, investigate discrepancies, and implement effective resolutions
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills for working with HR, finance, and operational stakeholders
