We are searching for a seasoned Payroll Associate to join a critical team on a full-time, 3-month contract basis. Job Responsibility:

  • Coordinating and overseeing payroll staff to ensure all semi-monthly processes are executed appropriately and on time
  • Operating as a subject matter expert, resolving issues, and continuously looking for operational improvements
  • Processing all essential remittances, including payroll taxes, to federal and provincial governments
  • Overseeing the semi-monthly reconciliation and balancing of all payroll earnings and deduction accounts
  • Preparing and processing journal entries, performing transaction analysis, and completing account reconciliations
  • Generating payroll-related reports and completing necessary analysis
  • Responding to payroll enquiries from employees and external organizations
  • Conducting payroll orientations for new employees and providing guidance to team members
  • Processing preliminary year-end balancing and reconciliations, and assisting the Payroll Manager with other year-end activities and special projects
  • Assisting/participating in special projects as required, including attending in-person meetings

Requirements:

  • A College Diploma, Undergraduate Degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience
  • PCP or CPM designation from the CPA or an equivalent certification
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills
  • Advanced communication skills, both written and oral
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
  • Mandatory ability to handle and use discretion with highly confidential information

Nice to have:

  • Experience utilizing the Workday payroll system
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and audit techniques
