Job Description

Columbia Technology Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support a high-availability, mission-critical environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on database professional who thrives in operational environments requiring reliability, performance, and rapid response. Shifts available include day shift, weekday evening or night shifts, or 12-hour weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday, day or night). This position requires flexibility for after-hours support and call-in assistance as needed. You will play a key role in managing Oracle 19c environments with Data Guard configurations, ensuring system resilience, data integrity, and continuous availability across distributed systems.

Job Responsibility

  • Administer and support Oracle 19c databases in a Data Guard configuration (1 primary, 2 standbys)
  • Manage Oracle Data Guard environments using Data Guard Broker
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain Fast-Start Failover (FSFO), including multi-site observer setups
  • Plan, execute, and validate database patching (Release Updates and Critical Patch Updates), including testing and post-implementation verification
  • Monitor database health, performance, and availability using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
  • Perform and validate switchover and failover operations, including primary database reinstatement
  • Troubleshoot Data Guard issues such as transport/apply lag, archive gaps, and broker errors
  • Maintain and support backup and recovery operations using RMAN, including FRA and flashback capabilities
  • Support performance tuning efforts using tools such as AWR and ASH
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure system stability, performance optimization, and operational continuity

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience) and 10+ years of experience in Oracle database administration supporting enterprise-scale environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle 19c on Linux (non-RAC environments)
  • Proven expertise with Data Guard Broker and FSFO in multi-standby configurations
  • Deep experience with database patching, lifecycle management, and production support
  • Proficiency in RMAN backup and recovery, including Flashback Database
  • Working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for monitoring and performance analysis
  • Experience with database security, Data Guard, and related Oracle technologies (e.g., DB Vault, label security)
  • Solid understanding of database design, modeling, migration, and performance tuning
  • Proficiency in Linux administration and shell scripting
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to operate independently in a mission-driven environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • DOD 8570 Certification
  • This position requires an active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph.
