The Occupational Therapist is an essential member of the Multidisciplinary Team at the Hermitage. The successful candidate will have a key role in providing services to patients based on their assessment of needs. As a key member of the frontline team, the Occupational Therapist will demonstrate professional competence, a strong collaborative approach and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in the hospital. The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives. Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic is a private hospital providing a full range of medical and surgical care across a broad spectrum of specialities. Working autonomously as an Occupational Therapist, you will undertake and report on a range of routine, specialised and advanced assessments in accordance with local, national and international guidance. You will support the review, development and facilitate the implementation of standard operating procedures and guidelines within the department in accordance with current research, and national / local guidelines. You will provide highly specialist advice, teaching and training to other health care professionals within the multi-disciplinary team

Work collaboratively with the Head of Physiotherapy in developing a quality Occupational Therapy service within the hospital
Involvement in audit activities

Deliver an effective and efficient Inpatient Occupational Therapy Service based on assessment of needs
Administer the highest quality of service by identifying and implementing operational procedures in line with best practice standards
Keep abreast with new developments, skills and technology in Hermitage Clinic, to ensure continuing competence in the job
Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely accurate and safe manner
Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues
Advocate as necessary for the patients, respecting their dignity and confidentiality
Function effectively in an emergency situation
Adapt to changing workloads
Evaluate and update care plans appropriately
Evaluate personal practice as compared to standards of care and know own ability and competence
Participate in quality assurance by assisting to identify recurrent problems and co-operate in data collection and problem solving
You must comply with all hospital policies in relation to Infection Prevention and Control
Facilitate and support staff in adopting and implementing new techniques and enable processes that ensure that all health care professionals, are kept up to date with new techniques
Implement HR processes and procedures in accordance with National policies
Participate in selection and interviewing for departmental staff when the time arises
Demonstrate determination and initiative in achieving results as well as sustaining and improving the service within resource limitations
review and evaluate the respiratory service regularly, identifying changing needs and opportunities to improve services
Manage the department within agreed objectives and within its financial allocation in conjunction with the hospital’s Finance Manager
ensure the effective and efficient deployment of available resources
Collect and evaluate data about the service and demonstrate the achievement of the service
Promote the Hospital’s commitment to continuous quality improvement
Plan and prepare Annual Service Reports including Work Force Planning, monthly and annual statistic reports of all activity within the department, Cost Containment Analysis including Equipment Service Contracts
Represent the department/team at meetings and conferences as appropriate
Act as spokesperson for the Organisation as required
Demonstrate pro-active commitment to all communications with internal and external stakeholders
Oversee the upkeep of accurate records in line with best clinical governance, organisational requirements, GDPR and the Freedom of Information Act, and render reports and other information / statistics as required
Engage in IT developments as they apply to service users and service administration
Keep up to date with developments within the organisation and the Irish Health Service
Requirements:
Candidates must hold a qualification recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU
Bachelor in Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Dublin awarded to graduates on successful completion of the four year University of Dublin pathway/programme to this award
OR Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Occupational Therapy from the University of Dublin
OR Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from University College Cork
OR Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the National University of Ireland, Galway
OR Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (Professional Qualification) from the University of Limerick
OR Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapy
OR Hold a qualification previously recognised by the Department of Health
Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
Candidates must have at least 3 years clinical experience, preferably in an acute hospital setting working with adults
All Occupational Therapists practising at Hermitage Clinic are advised to be members of the AOTI
Evidence of personal professional development- including evidence of reflective practice, In-service training, courses attended and Clinical Governance gained
