Job Description:

As a Senior Reporter on the Home News team, you will have a proven and consistent ability to bring in agenda setting exclusives. Senior Reporters take on the biggest stories of the day, find new exclusive angles and run a team of reporters. You are expected to have a range of reporting skills and interests, and to be an exceptional writer who takes pride in generating and delivering stories which set the news agenda.

Job Responsibility:

  • A proven ability to generate and seek out original and exclusive stories
  • Write high-quality news pieces across a variety of subject areas
  • Be a go-to for the biggest breaking stories of the day, finding new exclusive angles and running teams of reporters
  • Produce stories capable of leading the app, website, and front page - they will set the news agenda, delivering multiple splash stories
  • Maintain and leverage your highly developed contacts list as required
  • Present compelling story ideas to the Head of National News, News Editor (projects) and National News Editor
  • Work seamlessly across different publishing platforms, including print and digital
  • Maximise digital engagement and contribute towards the subscription strategy

Requirements:

  • Experience of working in news at national or international level
  • Proven track record of breaking agenda setting exclusives
  • Strong, diverse network of contacts
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with and experience of digital reporting techniques - open source, AI, digital forensics
  • Background in investigative journalism
  • Experience of podcasting or video
  • Willingness to travel at short notice
