This is a fast-paced "surge" role where you will act as a critical link between the Department and the public. Reporting to the Manager, Media, you will be responsible for navigating complex political landscapes, managing reactive media enquiries, and ensuring proactive storytelling remains a priority during this contract period.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinating and preparing responses to requests for information, briefs and communications
Providing expert media and communication advice and support to staff at all levels across the Department
Writing and editing media releases, print publications, website and social media content
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with a range of key media contacts
Producing and delivering high-quality, user-focused content using text, video and imagery
Developing communications plans to support specific business and environmental outcomes
Supporting regional staff in the field of media and communications
Requirements:
Proven experience in media relations, journalism, or strategic communications
Ability to work flexibly and respond to urgent media issues or state emergencies if required
Tertiary Qualifications: A degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications is highly desirable
A current Class “C” driver’s licence

Technical Proficiency: A strong grasp of digital communications and an understanding of IAP2 principles for community engagement
