Are you ready to shape the future of urban mobility? We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our HEM Engineering team in Scarborough. In this role, you won’t just be designing hardware; you will be engineering the critical infrastructure—racks, wayside enclosures, and COTS integrations—that ensures the safety and efficiency of global transit systems. The successful candidate will assist in the design of CBTC components like racks, sub-racks, wayside enclosures, COTS integration, to meet the applicable railway CENELEC and AREMA mechanical and environmental standards.
Job Responsibility:
Perform mechanical design using tools like CREO, Solid Edge
Apply the knowledge of manufacturing processes
Corrosion mitigation
Perform mechanical and thermal simulations using industry standard tools like ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, Flotherm and IcePak
Perform vibration analysis including PSD plots
Write and link requirements using appropriate management tools such as DOORs and Polarion
Responsible for working harmoniously in a team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others
Developing junior team members of the department by providing assistance, as required
Occasional travel may be required to customer sites, up to three times per year
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience
6 to 10 years of experience in industry
Excellent knowledge of mechanical design using tools like CREO, Solid Edge
Proficient with mechanical and thermal simulations using industry standard tools like ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, IcePak
Proven knowledge of EMC control (Cabling, Grounding techniques, gasketing, cable passthroughs etc.)
Exceptional knowledge of mechanical material properties including fatigue failure
Superior knowledge of ingress protection for enclosures and familiarity with the different ratings such as IP and NEMA
Familiarity with Validation and Verification testing, especially thermal and vibration testing
Professional verbal skills to allow clear communication without ambiguity
Perfected writing skills to allow documents, work packages, etc. to be prepared in a clear and concise format with sufficient information so that further clarification is not required
The ability to follow directions and work instructions, and to use good judgement in the performance of assigned work
The ability to effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action
Keeping track of progress on all assigned tasks
Verifying that all assigned work has been completed accurately
