At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. That mission comes to life through the devices people use every day, and is represented in our Surface and Xbox products. Our Microsoft Devices Operations (MDO) organization leverages engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to produce, deliver, and service hardware at scale. We are hiring a Senior Manufacturing Product Engineer to help deliver on MDO’s strategy to “Make it. Ship it. Love it.” This role exists at the intersection of product design and factory execution. It leverages product knowledge, robust engineering methods, and continual improvement mindset to deliver on our operational objectives of cost, quality, and scale. People who thrive in this role are relentlessly curious, challenge assumptions, and persevere through challenge. Their breadth of knowledge across electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines enables them to rapidly isolate contributing factors and lead cross-functional peers through root cause/corrective action workstreams. They are effective at navigating ambiguity, influencing without authority, and delivering results through global partners.
Job Responsibility:
Establish deep technical understanding of design, test, assembly, and operation of specific products.
Identify program-level manufacturing and refurbishment risks during NPI phase, develop mitigation strategies that enable scale.
Collaborate with Manufacturing Test peers to define, validate, and implement test methods that effectively gauge product quality.
Drive fault isolation and failure analysis workstreams to determine causes through robust engineering and statistical methods.
Develop and validate corrective actions that meet product quality and operational objectives.
Set analysis expectations for partner debug and engineering capabilities, audit performance and drive accountability.
Collaborate with Data System/IT partners to implement data collection and analysis capabilities that enable quality control and continual improvement workstreams.
Create and deliver product training to manufacturing partners to ensure rapid onboarding.
Develop tools and methods that enable debugging and recovery of deficient product.
Resolve technical and operational challenges that inhibit timely and cost-effective refurbishment.
Contribute to activities that refine Microsoft’s global rework and repair strategy.
Monitor quality metrics related to test yield, customer returns, and device refurbishment and identify improvement opportunities.
Develop and manage quality improvement plans across global manufacturing sites.
Lead cross-functional teams of SME across the development and manufacturing organizations to investigate, validate, and implement ongoing improvements.
Present quality improvement plans and status to Product and Operations Leadership.
