The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing process engineering and tooling support for the assembly of electronic circuit card assemblies and electronic “box build” assemblies to help ensure optimal production flow of product. Additionally, will generate production layout and work instructions for the production team.
Job Responsibility:
Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and documents various mechanical & electro-mechanical processes and operations used in the manufacture of electronic products
Plans and performs complex process engineering assignments requiring independent judgment and evaluation in the research, design, development, troubleshooting, upgrading and documentation of major manufacturing processes
Evaluates new material and process techniques to determine economic and/or quality impact on company products, reviews inputs from suppliers, design engineering and manufacturing and reports results to management
Prepares and issues manufacturing work instructions related to product changes or new products, processes or methods specifying sequence of operations and standard work for manufacturing processes
Compiles, evaluates, and recommends process controls and test data to define capabilities and variables for process or product specifications
Leads manufacturing and production readiness reviews
Reviews new product requirements with Sypris design staff or customer to ensure DFx and compatibility of processing methods
Partners with Quality Engineers to review and analyze defect/yield data
coordinates root cause and corrective actions using appropriate tools/methodologies
Creates procedures, deviations, purges, and other process documentation
Conducts evaluation, approval, implementation, and verification of ECO’s
Analyzes reports and returned products and recommends corrective action
Evaluates new quality standards as required
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum seven years of process engineering experience with electronic components and assemblies in a high reliability industry
Possess an in-depth understanding of high-mix/low-volume manufacturing
Extensive hands on technical experience with electromechanical assembly processes, SMT processes, soldering, and testing requirements
Knowledgeable with PCB Assembly Design for Manufacturability
Strong expertise in designing assembly cell layouts
Extensive experience with document collection, hardware hierarchy and specification reviews with customers
Thorough knowledge of data collection and statistical techniques including ability to implement Statistical Process Control
Strong knowledge in Lean/Six Sigma principles and application methods
Knowledge in continuous flow manufacturing using Lean techniques
Proven ability to implement Lean tools/methods (Standard work, 5S, cells, TPM, 1 piece flow, Set Up reduction, Poka Yoke)
Extensive experience with process improvement changes through Kaizen or other focused methods
Strong knowledge of work standards and visual manufacturing instructions
Experience working with MRP systems and inventory availability analysis
Excellent interpersonal skills and team building skills
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Inter, intra-department and external contact required
Possess or have the ability to obtain a U.S. Government granted security clearance
U.S. citizenship required
