Reporting to the Associate Director, Airside & Infrastructure Engineering (AIE) you will be responsible for safeguarding a large inventory of civil assets, including groundside pavements, roads, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure, ensuring they remain in good condition for the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of Toronto Pearson . This position supports the Capital Projects teams in delivering project requirements related to design and compliance with applicable codes and standards, including clients-specific requirements. The incumbent will collaborate with AIE members, other Engineering disciplines and multi-functional teams to resolve problems, and support key company stakeholders and partners.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain accurate inventories of groundside and airside road, tunnel, bridge, and culvert assets
Conduct regular condition assessments to identify maintenance and repair needs
Develop and implement a long-term capital planning strategy to prioritize and schedule projects
Develop Scope of Work and Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to procure consulting services and/or define project requirements
Oversee the design and construction of infrastructure projects as it relates to this role’s discipline, ensuring adherence to codes, standards, regulations and company-specific requirements
Provide technical support to various company stakeholders including Operations, Maintenance, project managers and construction teams
Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, codes, and standards
Conduct research and development to identify innovative solutions
Analyze complex engineering problems and propose effective solutions
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and engineering
Liaise with external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies and contractors
Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations
Requirements:
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
Extensive experience (minimum 15 years) in civil engineering design, heavy civil engineering construction, maintenance, testing and commissioning, specification and report writing
Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance
Strong knowledge of design standards, construction methods, and materials
Knowledge of civil engineering theories and principles, codes, standards, regulations, life cycle management and associated engineering disciplines
Strong knowledge of design, maintenance, repair, and construction of roads and bridges in accordance with Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) and national standards and guidelines such as the Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads, Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7 and Traffic Control during construction
Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and applicable codes, and use sound engineering judgement to make recommendations for improvement
Knowledge of contract terms and conditions and experience in contract management
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.), Bluebeam, and above average knowledge of graphic programs such as MicroStation and AutoCAD
Knowledge of engineering management practices and value for money assessment techniques
Ability to investigate, assess, and problem-solve varied and complex, interdisciplinary technical matters independently with limited assistance or supervision
Knowledge of international, national, engineering association and GTAA standards and policies related to life cycle management and industry trends and developments
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
