In this vital role you will play a pivotal role within Amgen’s Global Security (GS) organization. Reporting to the Senior Director, Product Security, Global Security, this individual will support patient safety efforts through the development and execution of strategies to counteract emerging external threats and prevent the distribution of illicit versions of Amgen products. As the head of the illicit trade and brand protection function, this individual leads response and remediation efforts for product security incidents such as counterfeiting, diversion, and illicit generics. Collaboration across a diverse and complex network of internal stakeholders is essential to maintain an effective and agile Product Security program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to development of internal policies, procedures and standards in collaboration with other key stakeholders as well as working in partnership to identify effective security technologies intelligence gathering and assessment as well as partnering with industry and governmental agencies to enhance the overall security and safety of products.
Job Responsibility:
Accountable for the Product Security scope related to external threats, ensuring the protection of Amgen’s global product portfolio against counterfeiting, diversion, and illicit marketing of Amgen products
Support a cross-functional steering committee that includes leadership from Global Security, Operations, Supply Chain, LAW, and Corporate Audit
Define and operationalize strategies for threat monitoring, incident reporting and response, counterfeiting deterrence and authentication, and enforcement protocols
Design, implement, and manage effective illicit trade and brand protection systems, processes, and tools
Collaborate with the GS Intel Team to monitor both virtual and physical markets for suspicious activities involving Amgen products
Develop and execute robust online monitoring and enforcement strategies across marketplaces, social media, and websites
Lead communications for brand protection efforts with online trading and social media platforms
Investigate suspected or confirmed illicit activities affecting Amgen products, working internally or with law enforcement, health authorities, and industry officials as needed
Implement strategies to promote ongoing education and awareness of product security issues, targeting both internal and external audiences
Participate actively in industry, government, and other relevant groups, task forces, and committees to advocate for Amgen’s interests
Facilitate security audits of vendors, suppliers, and business partners for-cause or pre-contract
Manage, from the Global Security perspective, activities associated with the security audit program along with other key internal stakeholders
Identify, assess, and implement mitigation strategies to counter external threats to Amgen APIs, materials, finished products, and returns
Establish and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency services for effective communication and response
Coordinate with other directorates within Global Security, both regionally and functionally, to align efforts as needed
Conduct and manage external investigations as necessary
Manage vendor relationships to support Product Security strategy
Requirements:
Doctorate degree and 2 years of enforcement and program management experience in private sector global/corporate brand protection, preferably in the biopharma industry
Master’s degree and 4 years of enforcement and program management experience in private sector global/corporate brand protection, preferably in the biopharma industry
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of enforcement and program management experience in private sector global/corporate brand protection, preferably in the biopharma industry
Associate’s degree and 10 years of enforcement and program management experience in private sector global/corporate brand protection, preferably in the biopharma industry
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of enforcement and program management experience in private sector global/corporate brand protection, preferably in the biopharma industry
Nice to have:
Supervisory law enforcement and/or military experience
Solid working knowledge of GxP (GMP, GDP, etc.) environments
Professional Security Certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
Extensive knowledge of the illicit supply chain and best practices for remediation
Demonstrated experience building investigations into organized crime groups
Expertise in Chain of Custody and evidence management
Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time, including overnight and weekend commitments
Ability to exercise sound judgment and act swiftly
Versatility to adapt to a dynamic threat landscape, manage details, and communicate effectively with leadership and executive stakeholders
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the capability to gather information and prepare clear, concise reports outlining issues, proposed solutions, and conclusions
Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and perform well under pressure while maintaining sound judgment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills to build consensus, lead by example, and present effectively. Ability to prepare professional documents with clarity and conciseness
