Job Description

The Japan Business Development team drives high-impact growth across Uber’s Delivery and Mobility platforms by building strategic partnerships that expand vehicle and courier supply, merchant selection and unlock new demand to create long-term value for users, partners and Uber. In this role, you will lead complex, high-value partnerships with leading and emerging players across a range of industries, identifying opportunities that can meaningfully accelerate Uber’s growth in Japan. You will build the business case, negotiate commercial agreements, and mobilize cross-functional teams to turn partnerships into measurable business impact.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the identification, evaluation, negotiation, and execution of strategic partnerships that grow supply and demand across Uber’s Delivery and Mobility platforms
  • Build business cases, shape deal strategies, and influence senior internal and external stakeholders to align and execute on priority opportunities
  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Finance, Policy, and Marketing to move partnerships from concept to launch and measurable impact
  • Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to shape Uber Japan’s long-term partnership strategy as Uber continues to mature as a key enabler of Japanese society, commerce, and the broader economy

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in business development, strategic partnerships, corporate development, consulting, strategy, commercial development, or a related field, with a proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution
  • Direct experience leading commercial negotiations, including business case development, financial analysis, term sheet creation, contract execution, and senior stakeholder alignment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage senior internal and external relationships, including C-level or executive stakeholders at large enterprise partners
  • Professional-level fluency in both Japanese and English, with the ability to negotiate with external Japanese partners and communicate effectively with global internal stakeholders
  • Experience in technology, delivery, mobility, merchant technology, supply acquisition, fleet operations, transportation, payments, loyalty, consumer platforms, travel, or marketplace businesses
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and commercial judgment, including the ability to evaluate tradeoffs across growth, profitability, partner economics, operational complexity, and long-term strategic value
  • Experience working on platform, ecosystem, or API-enabled partnerships that require close collaboration with Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Finance, Policy, and Marketing teams
  • High degree of ownership, curiosity, resilience, and comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
