Job Description

As the Head of Industrial Relations for Uber Australia, you will lead the strategic management of one of the most high-profile portfolios in the business. This role is at the coalface of shaping the Future of Work, balancing high-level advocacy with the operational engine room of a high-growth tech platform. You will be responsible for navigating a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, working with our policy and employment legal teams on engagement with the Fair Work Commission and unions, while supervising the team that manages our day-to-day industrial health.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop a multi-year IR strategy for ANZ
  • Lead a specialised team responsible for defending high-volume deactivation claims
  • Build scalable processes and workflows to handle BAU workload with precision
  • Oversee the end-to-end rollout of Minimum Standards Orders (MSOs)
  • Ensure operational compliance with earnings floors, product changes and operational obligations
  • Engage with the Transport Workers Union (TWU)
  • Help manage Uber’s participation in the Fair Work Commission’s instrument-making and employee-like reform processes
  • Act as a strategic partner to leaders on how tech platforms intersect with evolving industrial and safety regulations

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in employment and industrial relations law
  • Ideally within high-growth tech or highly regulated industries (e.g., aviation or logistics)
  • Proven ability to build systems for high-volume legal tasks
  • Deep fluency in the Fair Work Act and the Closing Loopholes reforms, including the Digital Labour Platform Deactivation Code
  • Law degree and admission to practice in an Australian jurisdiction (PQE 8+) preferred
