Aviation Safety performance is at the heart of everything we do in British Airways Flight Operations. This new role will lead a team of safety professionals dedicated to continuously improving our safety performance and safety promotion.

Job Responsibility:

  • Line manage a team of Safety Managers
  • Responsible to Head of Flight Technical for managing the performance of risk controls for Flight Operations across the Aviation Safety Management System domain
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in safety management and metric-led strategy
  • Responsible for managing the timely completion of safety investigations and risk action plans originating in Flight Operations
  • Provision of data, insight and reports to support Flight Operation’s governance in the domain
  • Responsible for driving continuous improvement in safety culture across the pilot and management communities
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective feed of safety data into the Evidence Based Training process
  • Undertake investigations into selected safety incidents, raising recommendations where required.
  • Provision of an effective local process for allocation of incident reports
  • Provision and management of MoCs, Risk Assessments and Risk Action Plans across the domain
  • Flight Operations’ representative at Management System meetings as required
  • Build effective and collaborative relations with key safety personnel across the business, including CS+S, CC Team, Engineering, Ground Operations and BALPA
  • Establish effective relationships with key external stakeholders including UK CAA, FAA and other regulatory bodies
  • Create innovative and effective channels for safety promotion and flight crew engagement in safety matters
  • Undertake ad hoc duties for the department as required
  • Support the appropriate Duty Pilot and Snowpatrol rosters as required
  • Deputise for Head of Flight Technical as required
