Job Description

The Senior Maintenance Technician reports to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and serves as the senior technical resource and on-the-floor lead for daily maintenance activities supporting the St. Paul Corporate Headquarters campus. This role is primarily hands-on and does not include formal supervisory or HR responsibilities. The position provides technical expertise, day-to-day work coordination, contractor support, and operational continuity to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building systems, laboratory equipment, and campus infrastructure.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform advanced preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades on building systems and process equipment, including HVAC systems

  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and overall facility performance
  • Promote a strong maintenance culture focused on safety, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and established procedures
  • Identify facility improvement projects that protect company assets and improve operational performance
  • Support contractor selection, coordination, and oversight as directed by the Facility Maintenance Supervisor

  • Coordinate and redirect daily work activities as directed by the Facility Maintenance Supervisor
  • Provide operational continuity during supervisor absences while maintaining the role's non-supervisory nature
  • Escalate staffing, performance, disciplinary, and policy-related matters to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in a maintenance-related field, technical certification, or equivalent trade training preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on industrial, commercial, or facility maintenance experience
  • Previous experience supporting corporate headquarters, laboratory, or research facilities preferred
  • Minnesota State Chief Class C Boiler License or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Demonstrated experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
