Our client is a fast-growing, ambitious science and technology organisation developing a world-class research campus in Oxford. With significant investment into a flagship, high-spec development, they are seeking a Senior Maintenance Engineer to play a key role in both the build phase and long-term operation of the site. The initial 12-18 months will focus on construction integration, commissioning, and operational readiness, developing a deep understanding of the building and establishing maintenance strategies ahead of handover. You will also play a key role in advising contractors and project teams during the build phase to ensure systems are delivered with long-term operability and maintainability in mind. Post-completion, you will take ownership of maintenance delivery, leading a team to ensure high performance, reliability, and minimal downtime across a complex, multi-site environment.
Job Responsibility:
Develop detailed knowledge of building systems during construction, supporting commissioning and long-term maintainability
Act as the engineering lead during the build phase, advising contractors and project teams to ensure systems are designed, installed, and commissioned in line with operational and maintenance requirements
Establish maintenance strategies, procedures, and operational standards ahead of site handover
Lead and manage maintenance delivery across sites, ensuring performance, compliance, and minimal downtime
Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance, acting as escalation point for complex technical issues
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technicians
Manage contractors post-handover, ensuring quality, safety, and delivery standards are maintained
Requirements:
Engineering qualification (apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or degree)
Proven experience in a senior or supervisory maintenance role
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and building services systems
Experience managing both preventative and reactive maintenance programmes
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
Experience leading teams and managing performance
Strong understanding of health & safety and compliance requirements
Able to work across multiple sites
Nice to have:
Experience within laboratory, healthcare, or other regulated environments
Exposure to commissioning, soft landings, or new-build projects
Experience working on high-spec or complex facilities
