Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Locomotive Control Systems Engineer to join our Asset Management & Strategy team, providing expert technical leadership across Aurizon’s locomotive fleet. This is a highly influential role where you’ll lead complex engineering initiatives, shape technical standards, and support the ongoing performance, safety and innovation of our locomotive control systems across the asset lifecycle. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and regulatory bodies to ensure our systems meet operational, compliance and future capability requirements.

Job Responsibility

  • Leading the technical delivery of complex locomotive systems engineering projects
  • Developing user requirements, specifications and safety-in-design documentation
  • Designing, reviewing and auditing control systems and engineering submissions
  • Overseeing testing, commissioning, validation and asset handover activities
  • Driving the development and implementation of engineering standards and processes
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers
  • Supporting the evaluation and integration of new technologies across locomotive systems
  • Leading the technology roadmap for Aurizon's locomotive fleet

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent)
  • RPEQ (or ability to obtain)
  • Significant experience (10+ years) in complex engineering systems
  • Proven experience working across full asset lifecycle (design → delivery → operation) including: OT cybersecurity for control systems and onboard networks
  • Management of software lifecycle and configuration for railway systems
  • Locomotive modernisation programs
  • Integration of new technologies into existing fleets
  • Platform management and configuration governance across assets
  • Development of engineering standards, specifications and governance frameworks
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with regulators and suppliers
