This is an important senior position within the high performing PEXA legal team to deliver critical legal support while modelling a proactive, partnership-driven approach. The Senior Legal Counsel provides high-quality, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of matters, including general corporate and commercial, regulatory, support for M&A, growth and transformational change initiatives. It also plays a key role in building core legal and governance functions, tools and processes for continual improvement and efficiency.
Job Responsibility:
Play a key role in shaping a high performing, trusted legal function that enables PEXA to deliver on its strategic ambitions
Act as a strategic partner to the business, providing confident, pragmatic advice on complex Australian regulatory matters impacting the group (including ASIC, AUSTRAC, ACCC, APRA and privacy)
Support and influence major transformation and change initiatives across the PEXA Group
Proactively identify legal, regulatory and compliance risks, and work closely with leaders to deliver practical, commercial solutions
Lead and advise on M&A activity, strategic partnerships, growth initiatives, minority investments and group financing arrangements in Australia
Deliver broad, high-impact commercial and corporate advice across the PEXA Group, spanning corporate governance, continuous disclosure, competition and consumer law, technology, cyber and data security, SaaS/PaaS arrangements, data acquisition and intellectual property
Design and embed fit-for-purpose legal frameworks, policies and practices that strengthen governance and risk management
Build organisational capability and sophistication by coaching leaders, conducting compliance risk assessments, and delivering practical training and guidance
Lead complex contract negotiations and provide strategic support to management on high-value and high-risk commercial arrangements
Manage and optimise relationships with external law firms to ensure quality, value and alignment with business priorities
Champion PEXA’s values and ways of working, fostering strong collaboration across teams and with key stakeholders
Requirements:
Tertiary qualifications in Law with a current, unrestricted Australian practising certificate
Senior Associate–level or equivalent in-house experience
Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex legal agreements across multiple subject areas, with excellent attention to detail and strong drafting skills
Demonstrated experience handling sophisticated legal matters in a commercially pragmatic and efficient manner
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and provide strategic advice to senior leaders
Confidence operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to see the bigger picture around legal, ethical and reputational risk and work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team
